The leaves are lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, with a long and acuminate tip, a rounded or cuneate base, finely serrated edges, pubescent along the midrib and pale or whitish beneath; petioles are 2-4 mm long or nearly sessile; stipules are lanceolate or absent, with serrated edges and glandular dots. Dioecious, male inflorescence short, cylindrical, 1.5 to 2.5 cm long, inflorescence axis with long hairs; bracts broadly ovate, obtuse at apex; 2 stamens, filament base with soft hairs, anthers yellow; female inflorescence very small, 10 to 25 mm long, inflorescence axis with soft hairs, female flowers with 2 glands. Capsule. The seeds are extremely small. Flowering period is April. Fruiting period is May.

Grown on river banks, plateaus and fixed sandy land. Distributed in Northeast China, North China, Gansu, Qinghai, Shandong, Anhui and other places.

[Collection] Young leaves (willow buds) are collected in spring; branches and leaves are collected in spring, summer and autumn, and used fresh or dried.

[Functions and indications] Disperse wind, remove dampness, and clear damp heat. Treat icteric hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and eczema.

[Prescription] ① Prevention and treatment of icteric infectious hepatitis: 3 grams of Willow buds. Brew with boiling water and drink as tea, you can also add brown sugar as needed.

②To treat the initial stage of rheumatoid arthritis with fever and chills: 50 cents of Salix matsudana buds. Decoction in water.

③Treat arthritis swelling and pain: fresh willow branches and leaves, decocted into a decoction for external washing or five cents of willow branches, three cents each of parasitic plant and mulberry branches, and two to three cents of radix polygoni multiflori. Decoction in water.

④For the treatment of goiter: add 2500 ml of water to one pound of fresh Willow leaves, boil until 1000 ml remains, take 200 ml each time. It can also be made into an extract or pills for oral administration.

⑤Treat psoriasis and eczema: 1 liang of Willow leaves, 8 qian of green onion, appropriate amount of lard and salt, 0.5 fen of alum. Mash the mixture together, wrap it in cloth and apply to the affected area three times a day. One course of treatment is six days. Hepatitis B: 10 to 50 grams of fresh willow leaf stems, slightly decocted to make tea, and add appropriate amount of sugar, the therapeutic effect is excellent after drinking.

For skin itching, take 100-300 grams of young willow stalks, 10-30 grams of alum, and 15-45 grams of Kochia scoparia seeds, decoct them into a decoction for bathing, once a night, for 1-3 days to cure the disease.

For perianal eczema and external hemorrhoids, take 50-400 grams of fresh willow stems and 15-40 grams of Sophora flavescens, decoct them in water and use for external washing or sitz bath, once a night, and the disease will be cured after 3 days.

For unknown swelling and pain, take 50-300 grams of fresh and tender willow stems, decoct them in water, wash or apply hot compress to the affected area three times a day, each time for 15-45 minutes, until the swelling and pain are reduced.

For stubborn athlete's foot that does not heal for a long time, you can pick fresh willow leaves, mash them and apply them to the affected area once a day, and it will be cured in 3 days.

If you are scalded by boiling water, dry fresh willow leaf stems in the shade, grind them into powder, mix with lard or honey and apply to the affected area. It is very effective in treating scalds by boiling water.

For mouth sores, take a piece of tender willow branch, peel off the green skin, and take the middle and fine
