[Source] It is the root of the leguminous plant Whitethorn . Harvested in summer.

[Original form] A short shrub, about 1.2 meters high. The bark is gray-brown with many wart-like protrusions; the branches are brown, nearly glabrous, and have sharp thorns. Odd-pinnate compound leaves are alternate; there are 11 to 21 leaflets, obovate, 7 to 12 mm long, 4 to 7 mm wide, slightly concave at the apex with a small thorn tip, rounded base, entire margin, and sparsely covered with flat white hairs on the underside. The racemes are borne on the top of old branches; the flowers are sparse and curved downward, about 6 to 12, white or bluish-white, with short pedicels; the calyx is small, cup-shaped, with 5 shallow teeth, purple-blue; the corolla is 1.5 cm long, the standard petal is obovate to spoon-shaped, and the keel petal has a blunt ear at the base. The pods are 3 to 6 cm long, about 5 mm thick, beaded, with a long mouth, densely covered with white flat long hairs, and 3 to 5 nodes. Seeds oval. Flowering period is from March to May.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in bushes or grass slopes beside hillside roads. Distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Gansu, Henan, Shanxi, Hebei and other places.
