Can I still eat the Chinese medicinal sea cucumber if it is moldy?

Sea cucumber is a health product with relatively high nutritional value. Many people choose sea cucumber when recuperating. However, when too many sea cucumbers are purchased and left at home, they become moldy. Many people don’t know what to do. So can we still eat sea cucumbers if they are moldy? If you don’t know the answer, it’s best not to eat it rashly. Next, let us find out whether sea cucumbers can be eaten if they are moldy?

1. Soak: Soak the sea cucumber in cold pure water for about a day and a night (24 hours) (change the water twice a day) until the sea cucumber is softened.

Tip: It is best to use purified water, so as to ensure that the sea cucumbers are large, delicious and easier to absorb.

2. Cleaning: Then use scissors to completely cut open the softened sea cucumber longitudinally from the abdomen, remove the hard tooth-like object at the front end of the sea cucumber, pick out the white tendons and intestines inside the sea cucumber, and wash it.

Tip: If you remove the tendons and intestines, the sea cucumber will be bigger.

3. Boil in a pot: After washing, add pure water to an oil-free pot, cover and boil, then cook over low heat for about 25 minutes, turn off the heat, and wait for the water temperature to slowly cool down.

Tips: The pot must be cleaned thoroughly, grease stains removed thoroughly, and the water temperature slowly cools down.

4. Soak: Then replace with new cold purified water and put it in the refrigerator for 1-2 days (24-48 hours), changing the purified water twice a day.

Tips: Place in the refrigerator at room temperature in spring, summer and autumn to maintain a low water temperature. Otherwise, the sea cucumbers will foam and rot if exposed to high water temperature for a long time. During the foaming process, observe at any time.

5. If there are still some sea cucumbers that have not expanded, repeat steps 3 and 4 and boil them again for 24 hours.

How to cook sea cucumber in abalone sauce

1Put water in a pot and bring it to a boil, add appropriate amount of salt, put in the sea cucumber and cook for about 3 minutes. (Or soak in broth for about 20 minutes)

2 Put abalone sauce into the pot, add a small amount of hot water, bring to a boil and mix well. Take out the sea cucumber, put it on a plate and pour the abalone sauce on it. (Or put a few broccoli blanched in boiling water on the side of the plate, which will make it more colorful, fragrant and delicious)

Kind tips:

1. The soaked sea cucumbers should be eaten as soon as possible. Do not soak them in water for a long time or place them in the refrigerator with water for a long time. If you soak too much at a time and cannot eat it all at once, you should freeze them in the freezer of the refrigerator. They can usually be stored for about 2 months and soak them in warm water when needed.

2. It is best to use stainless steel cookware or ceramic utensils for water-soaked sea cucumbers. All utensils that come into contact with sea cucumbers should be free of oil, alkali, acid, cigarette ash, hair, etc., including cookware, chopsticks, and scissors. Pay special attention to the inner wall of the pot lid not being sticky with oil. Be sure to wash your hands before washing sea cucumbers every time, otherwise the sea cucumbers will melt; the pots or utensils used when the sea cucumbers are soaked in water must be covered with lids to avoid oil stains.

3. Use cold water to soak the sea cucumbers, and add as much water as possible.

4. Due to individual differences among sea cucumbers, the gelatin density of some sea cucumbers is too high, making them difficult to extract. This is a normal phenomenon.

5. Upon inspection, if the sea cucumber is still a little hard when pinched, you can boil it again, remove it from the heat and simmer it for 8 hours, then change the water, and then continue to change the water every 8 hours until the water is fully swollen. Generally, it takes two to three days for the sea cucumber to be fully soaked.

6. The inner tendons and inner membrane of the sea cucumber are removed because the inner membrane and inner tendons will affect the length of the sea cucumber's expansion. Do not throw away the removed white tendons and inner membrane, as they have extremely high nutritional value and can be used to make soup.
