[Source] It is a plant of the genus Talinum in the Portulacaceae family, Talinum paniculatum (Jacq.) Gaertn. [T. patens (L.) Willd.; T. crassifolium auct. non Willd]. Its roots and leaves are used as medicine. In autumn and winter, dig up the roots, wash them, slice them and dry them in the sun. The leaves can be picked at any time, or collected in autumn, dried in the sun or steamed and then dried for later use.

[Original form] Perennial evergreen herb, up to 60 cm tall. The roots are thick, sometimes branched, with slender lateral roots. The whole body is fleshy, brown on the surface and milky white on the inside. The stem is erect, branched at the lower part, and slightly woody at the base. The leaves are simple and alternate, fleshy, obovate or obovate-oblong, 5 to 7 cm long, 2.5 to 3.5 cm wide, with a pointed or obtuse tip, gradually narrowing at the base to form a short petiole, entire, and green and smooth on both sides. In summer, small lavender flowers bloom in terminal or lateral, sparse panicles, mostly with dichotomous branches. There are 2 sepals, ovate; 5 petals, obovate or elliptic; 15 to 20 stamens; the pistil has an ovary superior, spherical, 1-chambered, and a 3-lobed stigma. The fruit is nearly spherical and gray-brown when ripe. The seeds are small, numerous, black, and have protuberances.

[Habitat distribution] It is often cultivated, but also grows wild in the cracks of rocks on hillsides. It can be found in provinces and regions such as Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan in my country.

[Cultivation] It is not very demanding on climate and soil, but it grows better in warm and humid environment and humus loam or sandy loam areas. For seed propagation, sow in rows in spring, with a row spacing of 1 foot, cover with 1 to 2 fen of soil, keep the soil moist, and seedlings will emerge in about half a month. After the seedlings have emerged, thin out 1 to 2 times, and keep the plant spacing at 3 to 4 inches. Weed once in June and July. Human manure should be applied once during the seedling stage and flowering stage.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, neutral.

【Functions and indications】Nourishes the middle and replenishes Qi, moistens the lungs and produces body fluids. It is used for fatigue due to qi deficiency, spontaneous sweating due to physical weakness, diarrhea due to spleen deficiency, cough due to dryness of the lungs, and scanty milk.
