Snake venom is a liquid secreted from the venom glands of venomous snakes. Its main component is toxic protein, which accounts for about 90% to 95% of its dry weight. There are more than twenty kinds of enzymes and toxins. In addition, it also contains some small molecule peptides, amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleosides, biogenic amines and metal ions. The composition of snake venom is very complex. The toxicity, pharmacology and toxicological effects of different snake venoms are different. The toxins are manifested as:

1. Blood circulation toxins: (including viper venom, pit viper venom, iron-headed snake venom, and bamboo snake venom)

2. Neurotoxins: (cobra venom, bungarus venom, coral snake venom, king cobra venom, rattlesnake venom)

3. Mixed toxins: (agkistrodon venom, cobra venom)

Cancer treatment effect of snake venom: Cancer is one of the three major diseases that endanger human health. There is no effective treatment at present. Scientists from various countries are studying snake venom as a new field to overcome this barrier. The snake venom research laboratory of China Medical University tried to find effective ingredients that can inhibit tumor growth from the venom of the agkistrodon acutus produced in Shedao, Dalian, Liaoning. It carried out a tumor inhibition test comparing the original venom and the isolated venom of Shedao agkistrodon acutus. Nine different concentrations of snake venom had different degrees of inhibition on mouse sarcoma, and the tumor inhibition rate was as high as 87.1%.

Anticoagulant effect of snake venom: The "defibrase" extracted and developed by the Kunming Institute of Zoology in Yunnan, China from the venom of the Chinese five-step snake passed the technical appraisal in 1981 and was used to treat 333 cases of vascular thrombosis, including 242 cases of cerebral thrombosis, with an effective rate of 86.4%. The pit viper acid-resistant enzyme jointly developed by China Medical University and Shenyang Pharmaceutical College has achieved satisfactory results in the clinical treatment of vascular occlusive diseases. The snake venom acid-resistant enzyme developed by the Snake Venom Research Laboratory of China Medical University can lower blood lipids, dilate blood vessels, reduce the content of thromboxane in the blood, increase prostacyclin, and relax vascular smooth muscle. It is an ideal anticoagulant and thrombolytic agent.

The hemostatic effect of snake venom, Japan uses a procoagulant component extracted from vipers and applies it to various bleeding diseases in clinical surgery, internal medicine, ENT, obstetrics and gynecology. The drug is called "reptile enzyme injection".

This article tells you in detail whether snake venom can be eaten. Some snake venom can be eaten, but some cannot. Snake venom is mainly used in medicine and can be used when gynecological diseases cause bleeding. If used, it can effectively stop bleeding.
