What are the effects and functions of roasted Shouwu

Our Chinese knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine is quite profound, so many people don’t know much about Chinese medicinal materials. They can’t even tell the types of Polygonum multiflorum. In fact, there are certain differences between roasted Polygonum multiflorum and Polygonum multiflorum. The medicinal effects of these two medicinal materials are completely different, so let us take a look at the effects and functions of roasted Polygonum multiflorum.

① Lipid-lowering effect: When rabbits are fed Polygonum multiflorum and cholesterol at the same time, the atherosclerotic lesions they develop are milder than those in the control group fed only cholesterol, and the serum cholesterol level is also lower. In vitro experiments have shown that Polygonum multiflorum can combine with cholesterol and reduce the absorption of cholesterol in the rabbit intestine. Some believe that the lecithin contained in Polygonum multiflorum is related to the treatment of atherosclerosis.

However, there are reports that feeding Polygonum multiflorum to rabbits with experimental atherosclerosis can slow down the rise of cholesterol and slightly alleviate the lesions, but the effect is not significant and its efficacy cannot be confirmed.

In pigeons with experimental atherosclerosis, Shouwu Yanshou Dan can significantly reduce serum cholesterol, whether the drug is used simultaneously with cholesterol or administered after cholesterol forms hypercholesterolemia, but it has no obvious effect on arterial intimal lesions.

Shouwu Yanshou Dan can alleviate the formation of aortic intimal plaques and lipid deposition in rabbits with experimental atherosclerosis, but there are also reports that it has no significant effect on blood lipids and aortic pathological changes.

A study has investigated the effects of Shouwu Yanshou Dan and its four single herbs, honeysuckle, eucommia, cherry laevigata, and mulberry paste, on the intestinal cholesterol absorption of rats. The results showed that the first two herbs seemed to reduce the intestinal cholesterol absorption of rats, but the whole formula did not show a definite effect, probably because the content of eucommia and honeysuckle in the whole formula was lower than the dose used individually.

② Effect on blood sugar: After oral administration of the decoction to rabbits, the blood sugar level rose to the highest level within 30 to 60 minutes, and then gradually decreased. After 6 hours, the blood sugar level was 0.03% lower than normal.

③ Antibacterial effect: Polygonum multiflorum has inhibitory effect on human tuberculosis and Shigella flexneri in test tube experiments.

④Other effects: Chrysophanol found in Polygonum multiflorum can promote intestinal motility, suddenly reduce nerve duration, promote nerve excitement, increase muscle duration, and paralyze muscles.

Polygonum multiflorum has an excitatory effect on isolated frog hearts, and its cardiotonic effect is more significant on fatigued hearts.

The fresh latex from the stem of Polygonum multiflorum was smeared on the ventral surface of the mouse ear. After application, the ventral and dorsal surfaces of the ear were thickened. The histological changes were similar to those obtained with phospholipids. It can be used to treat scrofula.

The above article introduces in detail the effects and functions of roasted Polygonum multiflorum. In fact, this Chinese medicinal material has many functions. The most common one is that it can lower blood lipids. After all, there are more and more people with high blood lipids, so you can drink some of this Chinese medicine for conditioning.
