【English name】 Engler Abelia, Fruit of flower of Engler Abelia

[Source] Medicinal material source: the stems and leaves of Abelia microphylla of the Caprifoliaceae family.

[Original form] Small-leaved Akebia, a deciduous shrub or small tree, 1-4m tall. The branches are slender and much branched. The young branches are reddish brown and covered with short soft hairs, interspersed with scattered rough, stiff hairs and glandular hairs. Leaves are opposite, rarely in whorls of 3; petiole is short; leaves are leathery; leaf blade is ovate, narrowly ovate or lanceolate, 1-2.5cm long, with obtuse or small pointed tip, base is rounded to broadly cuneate, nearly entire or with 2-3 pairs of inconspicuous shallow round teeth, margin is involute, dark green above, green-white below, sparsely covered with stiff hairs on both sides, and base of midrib below is densely covered with long white hairs. Cymes with 1-2 flowers grow in the leaf axils of the upper part of the lateral branches; the calyx tube is pubescent with a shallow sac at the base; the corolla is curved in bud, 5-lobed, with lobes crenate, regular or slightly irregular; 4 stamens, didyna, one pair is born at the base of the corolla tube, and the other pair is born in the middle of the corolla tube; the style is slender, and the stigma reaches the throat of the corolla tube. Achenes are about 6 mm long, pubescent, and crowned with 2 slightly enlarged persistent calyx lobes. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing at forest edges, roadsides, grass slopes, rocks, valleys, etc. at an altitude of 240-2000m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; astringent; neutral

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind; remove dampness; detoxify. Mainly used for rheumatism, arthralgia, carbuncle and swelling

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 15-24g; or soaked in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount, grind into powder and apply on the affected area; or mash fresh product and apply on the affected area.

[Additional prescription] For treating redness and swelling caused by carbuncle: Bauhinia twig, Artemisia selengensis, and Red Achyranthes bidentata. Mash the wool together and apply it.
