Rhubarb is a general name for various perennial plants of the genus Rheum in the Polygonaceae family, and is also the name of a traditional Chinese medicinal material. In Chinese literature, "rhubarb" often refers to horseshoe rhubarb. In China, rhubarb is mainly used for medicinal purposes, but in Europe and the Middle East, their rhubarb often refers to several other edible species of Rhubarb with red stems. It has a light fragrance, a bitter and slightly astringent taste, and sticks to the teeth and feels like sand when chewed. Dig up when the stems and leaves wither in late autumn or before sprouting in the following spring. Remove the fine roots, scrape off the outer skin, cut into petals or sections, string them into strings and dry them directly. The traditional Chinese medicine rhubarb has the effects of attacking stagnation, clearing dampness and heat, purging fire, cooling blood, removing blood stasis, and detoxifying.

Rhubarb has a stronger laxative effect when used raw, but a slower laxative effect when used cooked, but is better at purging fire and detoxifying, clearing dampness and heat; Rhubarb prepared with wine is good at activating blood circulation and clearing blood in the upper part of the body; roasted charcoal is often used to cool blood and stop bleeding.

The pharmacological properties of the Chinese medicinal material rhubarb are relatively simple, but its therapeutic effect on some difficult and complicated diseases is very outstanding. For example, rhubarb can treat excessive bleeding, detoxify, etc. Therefore, people who like to use important herbs to treat diseases can consider using rhubarb instead of Western medicine to reduce the harm of drugs to the body.
