[Source] The young leaves of Hydrangea paniculata or Hydrangea umbellata, plants of the Saxifragaceae family. Harvest young leaves between April and May, rub them with your hands to remove the green juice, and dry them in the sun. The leaves that have not been rubbed to remove the juice are harder and are called "raw leaves", which do not meet the standards.

【Original morphology】 The plant morphology is detailed in the entry for "Tuchangshan".

[Habitat distribution] Mainly produced in Zhejiang. It is also produced in Anhui.

[Properties] The dried leaves, after being rubbed, are irregularly twisted strips or round grains, green-brown or blue-black, and sometimes have petioles. The texture is loose and easy to break, with a slight smell of moldy dried vegetables and a sweet taste.

[Pharmacological action] The leaves of a Hydrangea plant (called sweet tea, but the variety has not been identified). Its aqueous extract or total bioalkali has a very significant antimalarial effect on chicken malaria. The antimalarial potency of the total bioalkali is 10 times that of quinine. There are three kinds of bioalkaloids extracted from it, which are the same as feroxanthin A, B and C. This type of biological alkaloids can easily cause vomiting and have a low antimalarial chemotherapy index.
