[Source] It is a plant of the genus Cynanchum in the family Asclepiadaceae. Cynanchum auriculatum Royle ex Wight, the root or the whole plant is used as medicine. The roots are collected in autumn; the whole herb is collected in summer and autumn, the dirt is washed off, and it is dried for later use.

[Original morphology] Perennial climbing herb, up to 3 meters long, the whole plant is covered with soft hairs. The underground perennial roots are thick and lumpy, with a dark brown outer skin. The stem is twining, woody at the bottom and branched at the top. The leaves are opposite, with oblate petioles, 3 to 5 cm long; the leaf blades are broadly ovate or broadly cordate, 4 to 10 cm long, 3.5 to 9 cm wide, with pointed tips, cordate base, ear-shaped on both sides, entire margins, green above, and white-green beneath. In summer and autumn, many small yellow-white flowers bloom in the leaf axils, organized into corymbose cymes. The calyx is nearly 5-lobed, with linear-lanceolate lobes; the corolla is deeply lobed, with broad lanceolate lobes, all reflexed downward; the corona is 5-lobed, fused with the base of the stamens to form a drill-lanceolate shape, higher than the stigma, with protruding appendages inside and outside; there are 5 stamens, and the filaments are fused into a tube. The anthers are borne around the stigma, with a white semicircular membrane covering the stigma at the tip. The anther has 2 chambers, each with a yellow ovate pollen mass, and a pollen mass in each chamber adjacent to the 2 anthers is connected by two arms of a pollen mass carrier; there is 1 pistil, and the ovary is superior, consisting of 2 separate carpels. The follicles are slender and horn-shaped, about 11 cm long and 1.2 cm wide, with narrow and pointed ends, and they crack on one side when ripe. [Habitat distribution] Growing on the edge of mountain forests or on roadsides. Often grows around other plants. It is distributed in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in my country.
