Perennial herb, 20 to 40 cm high. Rhizome short. The petioles are clustered, thin and ridged, 3 to 6 cm long, and rice straw to brown in color. The leaves are dimorphic, the petioles that do not bear spores are shorter, the leaves are broadly triangular, 7-15 cm long, 6-9 cm wide, pinnate-divided twice, the apical piece consists of 3 pinnae, 2-3 pairs of lateral pinnae, the basal pinnae have short petioles, forked 2-3 times, the middle pinnae forked once or not, the upper pinnae are often not forked, the lobes are linear, 4-6 cm long, 1-2 mm wide, the margins are entire except for sharp serrations at the tip, papery, smooth and glabrous, the rachis is red; the petiole with sporangium is longer, also pinnate-divided twice. The sori appear to be growing on the leaf margin, continuous and uninterrupted, but not reaching the tips of the lobes.

Growing in crevices among rocks beside the road. Distributed in Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hubei, Shaanxi and southern Gansu.
