[Original form] The elm tree is a tree, 8-18m high. The twigs are green-yellow and glabrous except for the inflorescence; the terminal buds are oval. Leaves are alternate or clustered at the top of branches in whorls; leaf blades are elliptical to oblong-elliptical or ovate-elliptical, 8-16cm long, 2.7-9cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex and acute at the base, leathery, dark green and shiny above, and pink-green below. Umbels are axillary or lateral, multiple and dense; flowers are unisexual, dioecious; flower segments are 4, ovate or oblong; the outside base and midrib are pubescent, the inside base is pubescent; male flowers have 6 fertile stamens, filaments are about 3mm long, pubescent at the base, the reduced ovary is ovate and glabrous, the style is sparsely pubescent; female flowers have reduced stamens with pubescent base, the ovary is ovate and glabrous, the style is sparsely pubescent, and the stigma is shield-shaped. The fruit is oval or nearly round, about 1 cm long and 8 mm in diameter; the fruit stalk is about 7 mm long and slightly thickened. The flowering period is September-October, and the fruiting period is December.
