【Original morphology】Plant height 15-40cm. The rhizome is long and horizontal, and together with the base of the petiole, is densely covered with dark brown, broad-lanceolate scales. Leaves are distal; petiole is 8-20cm long, hard, chestnut red and shiny from the petiole to the pinnules; leaf blade is thick papery, grass green above, gray-green or gray-white below, smooth and hairless on both sides, ovate or triangular-ovate, 10-18cm long, 6-10cm wide, tripinnate; pinnae are 3-5 pairs, alternate, with short petioles below, nearly sessile upwards, ovate-triangular, 1 pair at the base is slightly larger, 5-9cm long, 1.5-3cm wide, bipinnate; 3-5 pairs of pinnules, obliquely broad triangular, alternate, obliquely spreading, 1 pair at the base is up to 3cm long, pinnate; terminal pinnules are inverted triangular, about 7mm long and wide, with serrations with broad triangular spines on the sterile part of the upper edge, entire on both sides, and cuneate at the base; veins branch dichotomously from the base of the terminal pinnules upwards to the tooth tip. The sori are round and reniform, inserted in the notch on the upper edge of the pinnae, usually 1 or occasionally 2; the sori cap is reniform to round, yellow-brown, brown-black when mature, thick, and entire.
