[Source] Medicinal material source: The gum of Sterculia velutipes, a plant of the Sterculiaceae family.

[Original form] A tree of Sterculia velutipes. The bark is grayish white. Branchlets are stout and have time scars, and are covered with brown stellate pubescence when young. Leaves are alternate; petioles are stout, about 16cm long and hairy; stipules are lanceolate, about 1cm long; leaves are palmately 3-7-lobed, base is broadly cordate, 17-22cm long, and width is almost equal to length; middle lobe is broadly ovate, caudate-acuminate, up to 8cm long and about 8cm wide, with sparse short soft hairs on the upper side and dense yellow-brown stellate hairs on the lower side. The panicles are axillary and densely covered with rusty hairs; the flowers are yellow; the calyx is broadly bell-shaped, about 1 cm long, 5-lobed, pubescent on the outside and glabrous on the inside, with lobes lanceolate, acute at the apex, about 6 mm long, and spreading outward; the androgynophore of the male flower is curved, glabrous, with 10 anthers; the ovary of the female flower is spherical, with a style curved downward and covered with hairs. The follicles are oblong, 3-5cm long, with a short beak at the tip, and are densely covered with rusty long hairs inside and out. Seeds oblong, black. The flowering period is February, and the fruiting period is April-May.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in mixed woods in valleys or cultivated on the edge of villages.
