[Source] Medicinal material source: the stems, vines and bark of the plant Trachelospermum purpurogenum of the Apocynaceae family.

[Original form] Stout woody vine. The whole plant is glabrous or has slightly long hairs when young; the stem is about 1 cm in diameter and has many lenticels. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 3-5mm long; leaf blade is thick papery and oblanceolate. Obovate or oblong, 8-15cm long, 3-4.5cm wide, with pointed caudate tip, cuneate or acute base, rarely rounded; lateral veins up to 15 pairs, obvious on the back of the leaf. The inflorescence is nearly umbel-shaped, axillary or sometimes nearly terminal, 1-3mm long; the pedicel is 3-8mm long; the flowers are purple; the buds are obtuse at the top; the calyx has 5 lobes, which are close to the corolla tube, ovate, obtuse, and contain about 10 glands; the corolla is high-footed saucer-shaped, the corolla tube is about 5mm long, and the corolla lobes are 5, obovate-oblong, 5-7mm long; there are 5 stamens, which are inserted at the base of the corolla tube, and the anthers are hidden inside; the ovary is oval, glabrous, the style is linear, and the stigma is nearly capitate; the lobes of the disk are the same length as the ovary. The follicles are cylindrical-oblong, parallel, gradually narrowing towards the end, slightly sickle-shaped, usually fused at the ends, slightly expanded when old, 10-15cm long and 10-15mm in diameter; the exocarp is glabrous and has fine longitudinal stripes. The seeds are dark purple, obovate-oblong or broadly oval, with a blunt end, about 15mm long and 7mm wide; the seeds are capillary-like, about 5cm long. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from August to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in sparse woods in valleys or beside ditches.
