【Original morphology】 The body is long and laterally flattened. The abdomen is round. The body is about 18 cm long, with a short head and a blunt snout. Lips thick, maxilla extending to posterior margin of eye. The eyes are located on the side of the head slightly near the tip of the snout. There are three rows of hypopharyngeal teeth with pointed and slightly curved tips. The scales are relatively large, and there is an elongated axillary scale at the base of the pelvic fin. Lateral line scales 41 to 50. Dorsal fin Ⅱ7, originating in front of or opposite to pelvic fin. Anal fin III8-9, the 1st to 4th fins of male bighead carp are unbranched during the breeding season, and the fin rays extend to the base of the tail; beads appear on the head and anal fins. The body color is bright, with a gray-black back and a silvery-white abdomen. There are 12 to 13 blue vertical stripes on the sides of the body, with many irregular pink spots between the stripes. The pelvic fins are light red, and there are small black spots on the pectoral fins. The dorsal fin and caudal fin are gray, and the rear edge of the caudal fin is black.
