[Source] It is the fruit of Eurya obtuse L., a plant of the Theaceae family.

[Original form] Small shrub, 1 to 2 meters high. Branchlets rough. The leaves are alternate, leathery, and vary greatly in shape, being lanceolate, oblong, elliptical or obovate, 1.5 to 5.5 cm long, with obtuse or rounded or slightly concave apex, cuneate base, nearly entire or slightly serrated in the upper half, and smooth and glabrous on both sides. The flowers are small, unisexual, dioecious, axillary, and usually borne in bundles on short peduncles; there are 5 sepals, which are nearly round; there are 5 petals; there are 10 stamens; the ovary has 3 chambers, and the style has 3 shallow lobes at the top. The berry is about 3 mm in diameter, purple-red, with a residual style at the top. Flowering period is from March to April.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in forests in low mountain areas. Distributed in Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other places.

[Nature and flavor] Cool in nature, bitter in taste, non-toxic.

【Functions and indications】Quenches thirst and refreshes the mind. Treats summer heat, thirst, difficulty urinating, enteritis, diarrhea and dizziness.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 5 qian.

[Additional prescription] For treating enteritis and diarrhea: wild tea seeds, purslane, isatis root, pomegranate, and cranesbill. Decoction in water.
