[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Rockthorn plant of the Lamiaceae family.

[Original form] Rock Herb, a perennial climbing herb. The rhizome runs horizontally, with dense roots and creeping branches on the nodes. The stem is 30-70cm high, sharply quadrangular, and covered with upward-curved fine soft hairs, which are denser on the ridges. The stems and leaves are petiolate, 3-10mm long; or the leaves are herbaceous, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 1.5-3(-4.5)cm long, 1-2(-2.5)cm wide, acuminate at the apex, broadly cuneate to cordate at the base, 3(-4.5)cm long, 1-2(-2.5)cm wide, acuminate at the apex, broadly cuneate to cordate at the base, with 3-4 large teeth on each side of the margin, slightly pubescent on both sides. The raceme is borne in the leaf axils above the middle of the stem, (1-)2-9cm long, gradually shortening towards the stem tip; the bracts are all leaf-like and small; the bracteoles are linear; the calyx is about 2.5mm long, about 2.5mm long when fruiting, about 4mm long when fruiting, the scutellum is about 3mm high, and increases in size when fruiting; the corolla is purple, up to 2.5cm long brown, the base of the corolla tube is geniculate, microcystic and enlarged, and the middle lobe of the lower lip is triangular-ovate; there are 4 stamens, the front pair is longer; the style is slender, the apex is acute, and slightly fissured; the disk is slightly raised in front. The nutlets are black, ovoid, tuberculate, and have a hilum at the ventral base. Flowering period is June-July.
