[Original morphology] The plant of Chinese bamboo is in the shape of a tree. 5-10m high, with slender tip in an arc or drooping shape, and a total of about 30 nodes in the whole culm; internodes are cylindrical, 15-30 (-60) cm long, 3-6 cm in diameter, and covered with grayish white or brown warty small prickles on the surface; the culm ring is flat; the sheath ring is obvious; the sheath is leathery, with dense white short soft hairs and brown-black prickles on the back, the sheath mouth is wide and concave, slightly "mountain" shaped, and there are no sheath ears; the sheath tongue is tassel-shaped, and together with the fringe hairs, it is about 1 cm high; both sides of the sheath are covered with small white prickles and have many veins. Each culm has more than 20 branches, clustered in semi-whorls, extending horizontally, with the main branches slightly more prominent, and the lower internodes up to 10 cm long and about 5 mm in diameter. The terminal branchlets have several or even multiple leaves; the leaf sheaths are 4-8 cm long, glabrous, with longitudinal ribs; the ligules are truncate, brown-black, 1-1.5 mm high, with fine erode-like fissures on the upper edge; the leaf blades are narrow lanceolate, glabrous above, pubescent beneath, with 5-10 pairs of secondary veins; the petioles are 2-3 mm long. The flower branches are in bundles, often curved and drooping, 20-60cm long, with internodes 1.5-5.5cm long; the pseudospikelets are up to 1.5cm long; the lemma is 0-1, about 6-7mm long; the lemma is broadly ovate, with many veins, ciliated on the edges, and ciliated on the palea ridges; the scales are 3-4; the stamens are 6; the style is hairy and split upward into 2-4 feathery stigmas. The fruit is spindle-shaped, yellow-brown, and easily separated from the seeds to form a sac-like fruit. The bamboo shoot season is from June to September or from December to March of the following year. The flowering period is mostly from July to September, but can last for several months.
