[Other names] Big mountain hemp, stone weight, mountain oil hemp, slope oil hemp

[Source] It is a plant of the genus Helictercs angustifolia L. of the family Sterculiaceae. The root or the whole plant is used as medicine. Dig up in summer and autumn, wash, slice and dry.

[Original form] Small shrub, about 1 meter high. The stem is erect and branched, the bark is tough like hemp, and the twigs are densely covered with gray-yellow short hairs. Simple leaves are alternate, with petioles about half a centimeter long. Leaf blades are oblong-lanceolate, 2.5-8 cm long, 1.1-3 cm wide, with slightly pointed or obtuse apex, broadly cuneate base, entire margin, nearly glabrous or sparsely stellate pubescent above, densely covered with gray-yellow stellate hairs and gray-green below, with three main veins. In summer, short inflorescence peduncles emerge from the leaf axils, with several flowers clustered on them. The pedicels are short, with narrow pointed bracts at the base; the calyx is tubular and hairy; the corolla is about 8 mm long, with 5 petals of unequal length, oblong, light purple, nearly round and slightly concave at the tip, and 2 ear-like protrusions near the base; there are 10 stamens, 5 of which are reduced stamens, and the stamen column is fused with the gynophore to form a columnar shape. The fruit is ovate-rectangular, slightly similar to a sesame fruit, nearly 2 cm long, densely covered with star-shaped hairs, and cracked into 5 pieces when ripe.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in mountain grass, seashores and hills. Strong cold resistance. Distributed in provinces and regions such as Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangxi, Guangdong, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan.

【Chemical composition】 The roots show the reaction of flavonoids, phenols and tannins.

【Pharmacological action】 Antibacterial test: It has inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus.

[Toxicity] This product is slightly toxic and the oral dosage should not be too large. Nausea, diarrhea, dizziness and other reactions may occur during poisoning.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, slightly sweet, cold. Slightly poisonous.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, detoxifies, and relieves cough. Used for colds, high fever, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, mumps, measles, cough, and malaria; used externally to treat snake bites, traumatic bleeding, hemorrhoids, carbuncles and furuncles.

[Usage and Dosage] 3-5 qian; For external use, grind the dried root into powder and apply it externally or mix with rice wine and apply it to the affected area.

【Note】 Pregnant women and people with weak constitution should not take this product.

[Preparation] Sesame hemorrhoid injection : Wash and chop 8 jin of dried sesame roots, add water and boil twice, 1 hour each time, filter, combine the filtrate, concentrate to 5 jin, add 1 jin of banana leaf ash (burned ash), stir well, let stand for 6 to 8 hours, filter repeatedly several times, concentrate to 1 jin, add 1 jin of lime milk (i.e. concentrated lime liquid), and heat in a water bath to make it solid. Take 50 grams of the solid and put it into 100 ml of clean saturated lime supernatant and stir it thoroughly. First filter it with several layers of gauze, then filter it repeatedly with filter paper and activated carbon until it is clear and transparent. Put it into an ampoule or a clean empty bottle of penicillin or streptomycin, and sterilize it under high pressure for later use.

[Additional prescription] 1. Cold and fever: 3 qian of wild sesame, 2 qian of Artemisia annua, safflower, and ground peach blossom, 5 fen of Zanthoxylum bungeanum root, decocted in water and taken in 2 doses.
