Turmeric water extract has varying degrees of inhibitory effects on a variety of skin fungi in test tubes. The decoction can prolong the survival time of inoculated mice, but it is ineffective against chemical (carbon tetrachloride) liver damage on the basis of hepatitis. In addition, turmeric preparations can kill flies.

Curcumin contained in turmeric has the effects of inhibiting hepatitis, repairing damaged liver cells, and improving liver parenchymal damage. Turmeric extract, curcumin, volatile oil, turmeric ketone, zingiberene, borneol and sesquiterpenoids all have choleretic effects, can increase the production and secretion of bile, and promote gallbladder contraction. Among them, curcumin has the strongest effect.
