[Source] This product is the dried mature seeds of Trigonella foenum -graecum L., a plant of the Leguminosae family. When the fruits are ripe in summer, the plants are harvested, dried, the seeds are removed, and impurities are removed.

[Properties] This product is slightly oblique square or rectangular, 3-4mm long, 2-3mm wide, and about 2mm thick. The surface is yellow-green or yellow-brown, smooth, with a deep oblique groove on each side and a dotted hilum at the intersection. It is hard and not easy to break. The seed coat is thin, the endosperm is translucent and sticky; there are 2 cotyledons, which are light yellow, and the radicle is curved, hypertrophic and long. It has a fragrant smell and a slightly bitter taste.

【Identification】 (1) Cross section of this product: One row of epidermal palisade cells, the outer wall and the upper part of the side wall are thicker, with fine longitudinal grooves, the lower cell cavity is larger, the shiny zone is located in the outer 1/3 of the cell, and the outer layer is covered with cuticle. There is one row of supporting cells, which are slightly dumbbell-shaped, slightly narrow at the upper end and wider at the lower end, and the anticlinal wall shows strip-like texture. Endosperm cells are mainly mucous cells with very thick walls. Cotyledon cells contain fuzzy powder particles and fat oil droplets.
