In "Nezha 2", Shen Gong... The male leopard is not born with a stutter, but is psychologically allergic

Review expert: Chen Mingxin, national second-level psychological counselor, senior human resources manager

When watching the movie "Nezha: The Devil Boy Conquers the Dragon King", besides Nezha and Ao Bing, did you pay attention to Shen Gong...Gong...Bao who sometimes stutters when speaking? (Strange, why does he start stuttering when he mentions Shen Gong...Bao?)

Is Shen Gongbao's stuttering congenital? Why does he stutter? Is it possible to cure it?

Shen Gongbao's stuttering was not innate

Jiaozi, the director of Nezha, once responded to this question in Reuters: "He was deeply discriminated against by his master and all the fellow apprentices around him, and he was frustrated and lacked confidence, which made him a stutterer."

Jiaozi's explanation not only explains the reason why Shen Gongbao stutters, but also explains why some people stutter in reality: such people usually have psychological allergies, that is, abnormal psychological reactions caused by a special event, mostly caused by thinking too much about things, and will produce excessive panic and anxiety because of a look or a word from others, forming a vicious circle.

What is psychological allergy?

Psychological allergy, also known as "psychological allergy tendency" or "neurosis", is an abnormal psychological reaction state in which physical symptoms appear under the induction of psychological factors. When an individual is under psychological pressure and experiences emotional fluctuations, the body may have a series of reactions, such as anxiety, tension, headache, stomach pain and even stuttering.

Psychological allergies may be caused by a variety of factors, including individual traits, traumatic experiences, environmental pressure, etc. Just like Shen Gongbao in the movie, due to long-term discrimination by his master and fellow apprentices, he became extremely sensitive to the surrounding environment and the attitudes of others. When he was calm, Shen Gongbao spoke fluently, but once it came to key issues, his emotions fluctuated significantly and he would stutter.

Especially when talking with the Dragon King, the psychological allergy caused by this emotional fluctuation had a particularly significant impact on his language expression, and in the end he could only respond by nodding.

One of the causes of stuttering

Psychological stress and emotional fluctuations are considered to be one of the causes of stuttering. Stutterers are often accompanied by high anxiety and tension when facing social situations.

As a disciple of Tianzun who was born in a demon clan, Shen Gongbao has long been in an environment of discrimination and marginalization. The inferiority and anxiety brought about by the environment are reflected in his language ability, thus inducing stuttering, a language disorder.

Stress and anxiety

When an individual is in a state of tension or anxiety, the brain's control over speech movements may be affected, resulting in inefficient speech production.

Nervousness can arise from a variety of situations, such as high-pressure situations such as public speaking, exams, and interviews. In these situations, individuals may become nervous because they are worried about performing poorly, which can lead to stuttering.

Fear and inferiority

Psychological trauma experienced early in life, such as being scolded, laughed at or frightened, can have long-term effects on an individual's psyche, leading to a fear of speaking and low self-esteem.

This fear and inferiority complex may cause individuals to exhibit avoidant behavior when speaking, further affecting the fluency of language expression.

In addition, negative cues from the outside world, such as being ridiculed or scolded, may also cause individuals to develop fear and anxiety about stuttering, and thus form a stuttering habit.

How to perform psychological desensitization?

So how can psychological desensitization be performed for stuttering patients like Shen Gongbao? Psychological desensitization originally originated from systematic desensitization therapy in clinical psychology, and is mainly used to treat psychological problems such as phobias and anxiety disorders. It helps individuals gradually overcome their fear or allergic reaction to specific situations through methods such as cognitive reconstruction, exposure therapy, and relaxation training.

Cognitive Restructuring

Help patients objectively understand their stuttering problem and understand that stuttering is not a defect in their own ability or value, but a phenomenon that can be improved through training and adjustment. You can guide patients to review the moments when they expressed themselves fluently and enhance their confidence in their own language ability.

Exposure therapy

According to the patient's fear of stuttering, the scenarios are divided into levels, from daily chatting, group discussions, to public speeches, arranged from easy to difficult. Guide the patient to practice from the lowest level of scenarios according to the scenario level table. After being able to cope with the scenario relatively easily each time, move on to the next level of scenarios to gradually overcome the fear of stuttering.

Relaxation training

Deep breathing exercise: When you feel nervous or are about to speak, try taking a deep breath for 5 seconds and exhaling slowly for 5 seconds, repeating this many times to relax your body and mind.

Muscle relaxation method: Spend 15-20 minutes every day tightening and relaxing each muscle group from head to toe to reduce body tension and thus alleviate stuttering problems caused by tension.
