[Original form] Onion-leaf orchid, a perennial terrestrial herb, 30-40cm tall. The fibrous roots are slender. The tubers are spherical, oval or elliptical, fleshy and juicy, often growing in clusters of 2-3. Stem erect, with 1 leaf. The leaves are linear or narrowly linear, up to 40 cm long, green, with a distinct midrib; the sheaths are tubular and membranous. The scape is slender. There are many flowers, arranged in terminal spikes, red in color, with bracts at the base; the middle sepal is larger, ovate, and cucullate, while the lateral sepals are smaller and are narrowly elliptical like the petals; the lip is broadly oblong and without spurs; the column is short and without a column foot. Flowering period is April-May.
