A sudden landslide in Sichuan has caused more than 30 people to lose contact! How to avoid disasters scientifically?

At around 11:50 on February 8, a landslide occurred in Jinping Village, Mu'ai Town, Yunlian County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province. As of 17:00 on the 8th, 10 houses had been buried and more than 30 people were missing.

According to the "Sichuan Province Emergency Plan for Sudden Geological Disasters (Revised in 2024)", after research and decision, at 15:30 on February 8, the Sichuan Province Geological Disaster Prevention and Control Headquarters upgraded to the Sichuan Province Geological Disaster Level 1 Emergency Response.

First of all, there are often precursors before a landslide, such as a spring that has been dry for many years suddenly flowing again, a spring suddenly drying up, rocks cracking or making sounds of being sheared or squeezed, and abnormalities in plants and animals .

When encountering a landslide, you should quickly escape to both sides perpendicular to the direction of the landslide . Avoid running upstream or downstream in the direction of the landslide, and do not stay in a concave slope.

If you are in the middle of a landslide and cannot escape, you should find an open area with a gentle slope to stay, or hold onto a large tree or other fixed object, and avoid getting too close to objects that may collapse or carry electricity, such as houses, walls, and electric poles. After the landslide stops, do not return to the original place immediately to avoid a secondary landslide.
