Cedar is a plant of the genus Cedrus in the Pinaceae family, native to the southern foothills of the Himalayas. Cedar is a pine tree with small clusters of needles, neatly arranged like a giant umbrella, with layers of slightly drooping branches densely forming a dark green tower. The needles of cedar are covered with a thin layer of white powder, which looks like white snow covering the pine branches from a distance, hence the name "cedar". Cedar can grow in subtropical areas and survive in cold regions. Like its curved branches, it has a wide range of adaptation strategies. Cedar leaves are hard and sharp pine needles, and the surface of the leaves is covered with a smooth wax layer, so that the water evaporates slowly, so it can remain evergreen all year round. Wild cedars are extremely tall, generally growing to 40 to 50 meters, as high as 15 or 16 stories, and some can even grow to 60 meters, with a trunk diameter of 3 meters. The new branches of cedar are fresh and green, forming a visual effect of light and dark changes with the slightly silvery old leaves. In late summer, when the new branches are full, the whole tree of cedar will become crisp and bright; in winter, the color of the new branches will fade from fresh green to dark. Data picture: Blue sky, white clouds and cedars interweave into a series of moving paintings Cedar has a certain degree of cold resistance, but has poor adaptability to overly hot and humid climates. It is not resistant to smoke and dust, and its young leaves are extremely sensitive to sulfur dioxide and hydrogen fluoride. It is not resistant to water and humidity, but is more resistant to drought and barrenness. It prefers deep, fertile, well-drained acidic soil. It grows vigorously in a mild, cool climate, deep soil layer, and well-drained acidic soil. It has strong dust prevention, noise reduction and sterilization capabilities, and is also suitable as a greening tree species for industrial and mining enterprises. Some cedars will shed all their leaves when encountering an unfavorable environment, appearing to be dead. Sometimes they will not grow leaves for a year, but will grow leaves again when the unfavorable environment is lifted. Therefore, when you see "dead branches" on the cedar, do not rush to re-prune or cut them down, so as to avoid destroying the tree shape and losing its ornamental value. At this time, you should actively take rejuvenation measures for the trees, such as digging radial ditches, changing soil and applying fertilizers, and observe the changes in the tree's vigor for a period of time before taking any action. We often say that "pine and cypress are known only in winter", but cedars also need maintenance in winter. As cedars are not wind-resistant, wind barriers should be set up for cedar saplings or cedars planted in windy areas in winter; in case of heavy snowfall, snow covering the branches of pine and cypress should be removed in time to avoid breaking the branches. my country has planted cedars in Shanghai, Nanjing, Qingdao and other areas. Cedars are also the city trees of Nanjing and Qingdao. Cedars are tall, luxuriant and beautiful, and have majestic crowns, making them excellent greening tree species. Cedars stand tall, and their new branches and old leaves filter the sunlight into golden green, dividing it into rays and pieces of light and shadow. Birds fly in the light and shadow, and shuttle through the sunshine, like sparks, but rarely make noise. It paints a beautiful picture of harmony between man and nature.
