[Source] It is the root of the evening glomerate of the Onagraceae family. Harvested in summer and autumn.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The taproot is well developed and woody. Stem erect, up to 1 m tall, simple or sparsely branched at base, sparsely covered with white short hairs. Basal leaves are clustered and petiolate; stem leaves are alternate, with short petioles or sessile, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, narrowly cuneate at the base, gradually pointed at the apex, with short white hairs on both sides, long soft hairs on the veins and edges, and irregular sparse serrations on the edges. The flowers are bisexual, solitary in the leaf axils at the ends of branches, bright yellow, sessile, and open at night; the calyx tube is about 4 cm long, with 4 lobes, lanceolate, and often two pieces connected and curled when blooming; there are 4 petals, obovate or obcordate; there are 8 stamens; the ovary is inferior, 4-chambered, and the stigma is 4-lobed. The capsule is oblong, slightly 4-sided, 2 to 3 cm long, and covered with white short soft hairs. The seeds are brown and irregularly triangular. Flowering period is from July to September. The fruiting period is from August to October.

[Habitat distribution] It grows at the foot of sunny mountains, wastelands, grasslands, dry hillsides and roadsides. It is cultivated in Northeast China, Shandong, Jiangsu, Sichuan and other places.
