But when we searched for "silk quilt" on the shopping platform, we found that the prices of quilts that claimed to be 100% mulberry silk ranged from tens of yuan to hundreds of yuan...

Is it "value for money" or "paying an IQ tax"? We bought 6 samples of different prices and sent them to the laboratory to verify their authenticity one by one, and take the opportunity to let you know about the "routines of merchants"!

Among them, samples No. 1 and No. 2, which are priced below 100 yuan, did not detect any silk and are 100% polyester fibers, that is, chemical fiber quilts.

The merchant also deliberately sews the quilt completely, so if you want to check the quilt core, you can only cut the edges, so when you come across this kind of quilt without a side zipper, you have to be careful!

The merchants of No. 3 and No. 4 silk quilts are very cunning, using silk to wrap the chemical fiber tightly inside. Just like egg white wrapped in egg yolk, if you don't look inside, you can't find out the adulteration.

The No. 5 silk quilt, which is worth nearly 600 yuan, is said by the store to come from Tongxiang, a city famous for its silk. The details page also contains many photos of aunts pulling silk, as well as a quality inspection report.

As a result, its fillings are varied. Not only is tussah silk of relatively inferior quality used instead of mulberry silk, but it is also filled with various chemical fibers.

Seeing this, the result is also very obvious, only the most expensive No. 6 is a "real silk quilt". But is price really the only criterion for judging authenticity?

According to the current market conditions, the cost price of mulberry silk is about 300 yuan per catty. If a 3-catty quilt is made of 100% mulberry silk, its price should be between 800 and 1,000 yuan.

Of course, the price can only be used as a reference. Some people have spent thousands of yuan to buy fake silk quilts. How to judge the authenticity? We have summarized it for you:

1. Real mulberry silk is soft, elastic and has good ductility; chemical fiber feels very stiff and can be easily pulled apart.

2. Pinch off a little bit of the filling and burn it with a lighter: when real silk burns, it will have the smell of burnt protein, which is similar to burning hair. The burning product is black-gray powder and will crumble if you pinch it.

Chemical fibers can smell like plastic and will form melted balls after burning. They feel hard to the touch and cannot be broken up by rubbing.

1. The surface of high-quality mulberry silk has a pearly luster, is milky white and slightly yellow, and the silk threads are distributed in an orderly and neat manner;

Inferior silk looks very "pale" and has no luster due to the addition of bleach and other chemicals. It has many impurities and messy silk threads.

2. High-quality mulberry silk is sticky very easily. The longer the silk thread is, the better the quality. The stretchability and elasticity of inferior silk will be much worse.

3. According to national standards, as long as the silk content exceeds 50%, it can be called a silk quilt. If the merchant does not deliberately falsify it, you can also judge the grade of the silk quilt by the label.

The filling of a mulberry silk quilt will be marked as 100% mulberry silk, a tussah silk quilt will be marked as 100% tussah silk, and a silk quilt filled with inferior short fibers will generally be marked as 100% silk or pure natural silk.
