State Post Bureau: China's express delivery business volume will exceed 100 billion pieces in 2022

At 8:10 a.m. on December 1, real-time monitoring data from the State Post Bureau's express delivery big data platform showed that a box of honey pomelo sent from Pinghe County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province to Xiamen City, became the 100 billionth express delivery in 2022, reaching 100 billion pieces 7 days ahead of last year.

The State Post Bureau said that due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the postal and express delivery industry is facing unprecedented pressure this year. In order to cope with the adverse factors, the State Post Bureau has taken multiple measures to continuously optimize the development environment of the industry.

Xu Liangfeng, deputy director of the Data Management Department of the Postal Industry Security Center of the State Post Bureau, said that with the rapid development of new e-commerce such as live streaming, the source structure of express delivery business volume has been further optimized, and more categories of goods, especially more and more agricultural products, are connected to the national market through the express delivery network.

At the same time, while the major express delivery provinces in the east continue to maintain stable operations, growth in the central and western regions has accelerated significantly, and the distribution of express delivery business across the country is gradually being optimized.

Lin Hu, deputy director of the Market Supervision Department of the State Post Bureau, pointed out that the State Post Bureau will vigorously promote the joint delivery of rural postal terminals in the next step. In view of the high cost and low income of rural express delivery, it is encouraged to integrate and share resources, promote the deepening of cooperation among various entities such as rural postal, express delivery, and transportation, jointly build rural postal public distribution centers, and develop joint delivery of terminals.

Data shows that my country's express delivery business volume reached 108.5 billion pieces in 2021, supporting online retail sales of nearly 11 trillion yuan. It was previously expected that the express delivery business volume would reach 122.5 billion pieces in 2022, which seems quite difficult at present.
