[Source] Medicinal material source: The vine stem or root of Schisandra chinensis, a plant of the Schisandraceae family.

【Original form】 Deciduous vine. Except for the short soft hairs on the underside of young leaves, the rest are glabrous. Young branches are purple-brown, cylindrical, with fine ridges, while old branches are gray-brown and peel off in flaks. Leaves are alternate, papery; petiole 1-4cm long; leaf blade ovate-elliptic, ovate or obovate, rarely lanceolate, usually widest below the middle, 4-16cm long, 2.5-8m wide, acuminate at apex, obtuse or cuneate at base, with serrated or wavy sparse teeth on margin, entire near base, green above, light green below, with obvious reticulate veins on both sides. The flowers are inferior, dioecious, yellow, yellow-green or pink, with 6-7 tepals; 10-20 stamens, attached to an obovate or nearly spherical receptacle; the pistil group is elliptical, with 15-20 carpels and an inconspicuous style. The aggregate fruit is 4-5 cm long and has 15-20 small berries. There are 1-2 seeds, which are reniform-oval and have tubercles on the seed coat. The flowering period is from April to June, and the fruiting period is from June to October.
