CTA: 62% of Chinese netizens plan to buy the next generation of high-tech products online

According to a survey by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), nearly 60% of Chinese netizens consider themselves early adopters of high technology, a higher index than other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. In an April 2016 survey, about half of Indonesian and Malaysian respondents said they were early adopters of high technology.

CTA's survey shows that even though there is only a 10% gap between China and other countries in the proportion of high-tech early adopters, the next generation of high-tech network purchases will bring a bigger gap.

More than 60% of Chinese netizens said they plan to buy the next generation of high-tech devices online, making it the only country in the Asia-Pacific region with a figure above 50%. In Indonesia, 38% of netizens plan to buy the next generation of high-tech products online, which is ten percentage points lower than the proportion of high-tech early adopters (49%).

Being an early adopter of high technology does not necessarily require purchasing high-tech products online, but the survey does show that Chinese early adopters of high technology are more adaptable to the online environment.

A PwC survey in February 2016 found that 62% of Chinese online shoppers shop online because of convenience, and 36% of consumers choose cheaper prices as the reason for online shopping.

In other countries, convenience and cheapness are more important. For example, in Singapore, 55% of online shoppers said they shop online because they get better prices.
