[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Aster tataricus of the Asteraceae family.

[Original form] Aster tataricus is a perennial herb, 50-130cm tall. The rhizome is thick and has rare short creeping branches. The stem is solitary or sparsely clustered, strong, branched at the top, with ridges and grooves, covered with curled or spreading long dense hairs, and mixed with glandular hairs at the top. Leaves are densely packed; lower leaves wither during flowering; middle leaves are oblong-lanceolate, 4-14cm long, 1-2.3cm wide, with pointed or acuminate apex, cuneate or nearly rounded base, sessile, entire or with 2-3 pairs of shallow serrations on the upper part; upper leaves are small, linear-lanceolate, oblong or ovate; all leaves are densely glandular hairy, gray-green below, with rolled or spreading long hairs; midrib is raised below, with three veins and 3-4 pairs of lateral veins from the base. The head inflorescence is 2-3cm in diameter, with a few to dozens arranged in compound umbels; the peduncle is 1-5cm long. The involucre is hemispherical; the involucre has about 3 layers, arranged in a shingle-like manner, the outer layer has a pointed tip, the top is often purple-red, and the lower part is covered with glands and dense hairs; the inner layer is narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, only with glands, and with cilia. There are 20-30 ligulate flowers, with white or light purple-red tongues; the tubular flowers are yellow, with lobes 1mm long; the style attachment is 0.6mm long. There is one layer of pappus, which is dirty white or slightly red, with slightly rough hairs. Achenes are obovate, flat, with 1 rib on each side, covered with white silky hairs, sometimes glandular. Flowering and fruiting period is from September to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in high mountains and subalpine forest edges, grass slopes, stream banks and sandy land at an altitude of 2200-3200m.
