Leaves are alternate; leaf blades are elliptic or nearly lanceolate, 4-10cm long, 1.2-3cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, gradually narrowed at the base into a sheath, the leaf sheath is 1-1.5cm long, densely covered with long stiff hairs to nearly glabrous, the sheath mouth has long eyelashes, rough on the upper side, and slightly hairy on the lower side. The flowers are small and numerous, arranged in dense terminal panicles, 4-6 cm long; the peduncle is extremely short; the bracts are leaf-like; the bracteoles are scale-like; the sepals are 3, elliptic, about 3 mm long, and covered with glandular hairs on the back; the flowers are blue or purple, rarely pink and white; the petals are 3, separate, obovate, slightly longer than the sepals; the stamens are 6, fully developed, and the filaments are glabrous; the ovary is ovate, 2-chambered, and the style is linear, about 6 mm long. Capsule is round, slightly flattened and pointed. The seeds are semi-elliptical, grayish white, with radial patterns, and the embryo cap is white and located on the back. Flowering period is October-November.
