comScore: Online shopping revenue in the US is expected to reach $37.6 billion during the 2011 Christmas shopping season

According to foreign media reports, a report released by market research firm comScore on Wednesday showed that as more and more retailers will provide free or low-cost delivery services, online shopping revenue in the US Christmas shopping season this year is expected to increase by 15% year-on-year to $37.6 billion. On Tuesday, comScore just released a report saying that in the first 20 days of November this year, US online shopping revenue increased by 14% year-on-year. On Wednesday, the company released another report saying that US online shopping revenue in November and December this year is expected to reach $37.6 billion.

During the 2011 Thanksgiving weekend, American consumers will flock to major stores or search for discounted products online, so online and offline retailers have begun to make full preparations for this, which has also indirectly stimulated consumers' enthusiasm for online shopping.

In 2010, online shopping revenue during the traditional Christmas shopping season in the United States increased by 12% year-on-year.

A survey of 1,000 shoppers earlier this week showed that 76% of respondents chose to shop online, with free shipping becoming a decisive factor in their choice of online shopping.

Many traditional retailers have been lowering delivery fees and, in most cases, are sticking with free shipping year-round to combat competition with each other and online retail giant Amazon.

For example, Macy's Inc, the second largest retail chain in the United States, will lower the threshold for all online shoppers to enjoy free shipping services starting next Monday. Nordstrom Inc, another large traditional retail store, has been offering free shipping services as early as August this year.
