[Source] It is the bark or root bark of Myrica pubescens, a plant of the Myricaceae family. It can be harvested throughout the year, sliced ​​and sun-dried.

[Original form] Evergreen tree, 5 to 15 meters high. The bark is gray-brown; the twigs and buds are densely covered with felt hairs, and the lenticels are dense and obvious. The leaves are simple and alternate, clustered at the upper part of the branches, leathery, cuneate-obovate to oblanceolate-obovate, 5-18 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, obtuse at the apex, cuneate at the base, entire or occasionally with a few crenates or serrations above the middle, with very sparse golden glands on the underside of the leaves. The spike panicles are axillary; the male inflorescences are 6-8 cm long, with dense bracts arranged in a shingle-like manner, with a male flower in each bract axil and 3-7 stamens; the female inflorescence is spike-like because of its extremely shortened branches, with only 1-4 fertile bracts, 2-3.5 cm long, with a female flower in each bract axil, and the ovary has 2 slender bright red style branches. The drupe is oval, slightly flattened, red when ripe, with nipple-like protrusions on the outside, and a fleshy exocarp with lots of juice and resin.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in sunny forests on hillsides. Distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.

[Properties and flavors] "Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicine": "astringent, neutral."

[Functions and indications] Anti-inflammatory, astringent, antidiarrheal, bleeding, analgesic, treatment of dysentery, enteritis, metrorrhagia, stomachache.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decocted in water, 3 to 5 qian; or soaked in wine. For external use: grind into powder and sprinkle or boil into paste for application.
