[Source] The fine hairs (tiger hair) on the rhizomes and young leaves of Osmunda japonica Thunb., a plant of the genus Osmunda in the family Osmundaceae. Collect rhizomes in spring and autumn, wash and dry them; collect cotton wool (Laohutaiyi) when young leaves first emerge.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, slightly cold.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, detoxifies, and stops bleeding. Used for dysentery, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea; the cotton hairs on the young leaves are used externally to treat traumatic bleeding.

[Usage and Dosage] 0.3-1 liang; apply an appropriate amount with cotton wool, grind into powder and apply to the affected area.
