[Source] It is the leaves of Callicarpa macrophylla vahl, a plant of the Verbenaceae family. The leaves are collected in summer and autumn and used dried or fresh.

[Original morphology] Shrub or small tree, young branches covered with grayish white long hairs. Leaves are opposite, oblong to elliptic-lanceolate, with short soft hairs on the upper side, slightly rough when old, densely covered with grayish white hairs on the lower side, with inconspicuous golden glandular dots on both sides, cymes branched 5 to 7 times, peduncle 2 to 4 cm long; calyx 4-lobed, stellate soft hairs; corolla purple, tubular, 4-lobed at the apex, slightly covered with fine hairs; stamens 4; ovary superior, 4-chambered. The berry-like drupe is spherical in shape with glandular dots and purple-red when ripe. Flowering period is summer.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides, roadsides and sparse woods. Produced in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou.

[Properties] The leaves are mostly curled, wrinkled, and some are broken. When the complete one is flattened, it is oblong to elliptical-lanceolate, 15 to 30 cm long, 5 to 11 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, with serrated edges, short soft hairs on the upper side, and densely covered with grayish-white hairs on the lower side. It has a faint smell and a slightly bitter taste.
