[Source] It is the whole herb of the Labiatae plant. Harvest from May to August.

[Original form] Perennial herb, about 1.3 meters high, with branches. The rhizomes are spreading, with square stems that are purple or dark green. Leaves are opposite; lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, 1-6 cm long, 3-17 mm wide, acuminate or acute at apex, rounded or cuneate at base, sparsely serrated at margin, glabrous on both sides, with glandular dots beneath; leaves are sessile. The cymes are densely packed into terminal spikes; the bracts are linear and ciliate; the calyx is bell-shaped, pubescent on the outside, with 5 teeth and ciliate; the corolla is purple or white, with no glabrous ring on the inner surface of the corolla tube, and has 4 lobes, the upper lobes are larger; there are 4 stamens, extending outside the corolla tube; the style has 2 lobes at the top, extending outside the corolla. The nutlets are ovate, black and slightly pubescent. Flowering period is from July to August. The fruiting period is from August to September.

[Habitat distribution] It is cultivated in Hebei, Jiangsu, Guangdong and other places.

[Chemical composition] Contains about 0.6-0.7% volatile oil, about 60-65% caraway ketone, as well as limonene, phellandrene, etc. The fresh leaves of Indian spearmint contain 0.2-0.25% volatile oil, of which the oil contains 55.8% carvacrol, 17.5% limonene, 6.74% dihydrocarvacrol and 11.55% ester.

【Nature and flavor】Sweet, spicy, warm.

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind, regulate qi, and relieve pain. Treat colds, coughs, headaches, abdominal distension and pain, and dysmenorrhea.

[Usage and Dosage] Inner eye: decoct in water, 1 to 3 qian (0.5 to 1 liang for fresh ones). For external use: mash and apply.
