The efficacy and function of Radix Stemonae

[Alias] Asparagus cochinchinensis (Nanning Pharmacopoeia).

[Source] It is the tuberous root of Asparagus cochinchinensis , a plant of the Liliaceae family. Between February and March, dig up underground tubers that have grown for 2 to 3 years, clean the soil and dry them in the sun. Or blanch it in boiling water, then take it out and dry it in the sun.

[Original form] Asparagus officinalis, also known as: Asparagus, mountain asparagus, fine-leaved Stemona, Sololo.

[Habitat distribution] Cultivated in southern my country. Produced in Guangxi.

[Properties] The dried rhizomes grow in clusters of one or dozens, or individually. It is oblong, 10 to 25 cm long, about 4 mm in diameter, and yellowish-white or khaki in appearance. There are irregular grooves. The texture is soft and tough, the cross section is fleshy, light yellowish white, the central column is oval and yellow in color.

【Nature and flavor】 ① "Nanning Pharmacopoeia": "bitter, sweet, slightly warm."

【Functions and indications】 "Nanning Pharmacopoeia": "It moistens the lungs and relieves cough, removes phlegm and kills insects. It can treat lung heat and kill malnutrition. It can also be used to treat skin scabies and all parasites."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 1 to 3 qian; or made into pills or powder. For external use: decoct in water for fumigation or mash into juice for application.

[Additional prescription] For the treatment of lymph node tuberculosis: 2 taels of fresh Solomon's root, 5 qian of fried buckwheat flour, mash into a paste, apply externally, change the dressing once a day. (Inner Mongolia "Selected Materials on New Chinese Herbal Medicine Treatment Methods")
