[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Carex crossifolia of the Cyperaceae family.

[Original form] Carex crucifera, a perennial herb with creeping, sturdy and woody rhizomes. The culm is stout, 40-90cm high, with three obtuse edges and dark brown leaf sheaths at the base. The leaves are longer than the culm and 4-13mm wide. The panicle is compound, 20-40cm long, with many lateral branch inflorescences; the rachis is sparsely covered with short coarse hairs; the bracts are leaf-like, longer than the inflorescence, and the bract sheath is long; the spikelets are numerous, all arising from the first leaves of the flowerless sac-like branches in the capsule, male and female in sequence, elliptical, 5-6mm long, and spreading at almost right angles; the female flower scales are broadly ovate, about 2mm long, membranous, densely rusty, with 3 veins, and with a short awn tip at the tip. The fruit capsule is oblong-ovate, swollen, 3-4mm long, light yellow-brown with rusty dots and lines, with many veins, short and coarse hairs on the upper edge, and a sharp beak at the apex with 2 teeth at the top of the beak. The nutlets are ovate-oblong, about 1.8 mm long, triangular, and have 3 stigmas.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on hillsides, grasslands, and under forests.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; sweet; neutral

【Functions and indications】 Relieves exterior symptoms and clears away rashes; regulates Qi and strengthens the spleen. Mainly used for wind-heat cold; measles with poor outbreak; indigestion

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 6-15g.
