[Source] Medicinal material source: the nodes and needles of the branches and trunks of the Pinus family plants white pine and green pine.

[Original form] A tree, up to 30m tall, with a chest circumference of about 60m. The bark is gray-brown with irregular thin cracks. Branchlets are light yellow-brown and hairy; winter buds are conical, brown, smooth and hairless. The leaves are conical, 1.3-3cm long, obtuse at the tip, prismatic in cross section, with stomatal lines on all four sides. Monoecious; male cones are solitary in leaf axils, drooping; female cones are solitary at branch tops, purple-red, drooping. The cones are oblong-cylindrical, brown-yellow when ripe, 6-9cm long and 2.5-3.5cm in diameter; the middle seed scales are obovate, about 1.6cm long and 1.2m wide, with rounded or obtuse triangular tips, and the exposed part of the back of the scales has stripes. The seeds are obovate, about 3.5mm long, with light brown seed wings. It grows in mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests at an altitude of 1500-2700m and is distributed in North China and Liaoning.

[Habitat distribution] 1. Nodus et Folium Piceae Meyeri are mainly produced in Shanxi, Hebei and Inner Mongolia. Collect for own use. 2. Nodus et Folium Piceae Wilsonii is mainly produced in Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Hubei, Gansu and Sichuan. Collect for own use.

White ash: The twigs have peg-shaped pulvinus, which are hairy or nearly hairless, swollen and tumor-like at the nodes, and the outer surface is gray-brown. The leaves are linear, angular, slightly curved, 1.3-3cm long, 1.2-1.8mm wide, slightly obtuse or blunt at the tip, with pinkish-white stomatal lines on all four sides; the cross section is rhombus-shaped. 【Discussions by Various Scholars】 "Illustrated Records of Plant Names and Realities": "According to the Chinese character for 杄, 桾梃 is found in the "Notes on Wudu Fu", and its seeds are shaped like gourds. It is found in Guangdong today, and is also called Yangshi Zao, not soft jujube. The fruit of this wood is the same size as pine fruit but smaller, and is definitely not 桾梃. There is no word record of 梃 wood. According to the "Shuowen Jiezi", under the word 樠, it is a pine heartwood. In Ma Rong's "Guangcheng Song", there is a pine tree in Lingqiao. Luxiu 樠. According to the "Book of Han", there are many pine and 樠 ​​trees in Wusun, and pine and 樠 ​​are mentioned together, which is a kind of tree. Xiaoyan's note says that 樠 is a tree name, and its heart is like pine. Today, there are two kinds of 樠 wood, red and white. The locals also call it pine 樠, and 杄 and 樠 ​​sound similar, so it may be 樠 wood."
