【English name】RADIX PEUCEDANI

[Source] This product is the dried root of Peucedanum praeruptorum Dunn or Peucedanum decursivum Maxim., both of which belong to the Umbelliferae family. Dig it up from winter to the next spring when the stems and leaves wither or the flower stems have not yet emerged, remove the fibrous roots, wash it, and dry it in the sun or at a low temperature.

[Properties] Peucedanum pekinensis: irregular cylindrical, conical or fusiform, slightly twisted, often with branches at the bottom, 3 to 15 cm long and 1 to 2 cm in diameter. The surface is dark brown or grayish yellow, with many stem scars and fibrous leaf sheath residues on the root head, dense fine ring patterns on the upper end, and longitudinal grooves, longitudinal wrinkles and transverse lenticels on the lower part. The texture is relatively soft, and the dry one is hard and can be broken. The cross section is uneven, light yellowish white, with many brown-yellow oil spots scattered on the cortex, and the cambium rings are brown and the rays are radial. It has a fragrant aroma and a slightly bitter and spicy taste.

[Identification] (1) Take 1g of the powder of this product, add 10ml of ether, soak for 2 hours, take 2 drops of ether, respectively apply them on two small filter papers, and observe under ultraviolet light (365nm), which will show a light sky blue fluorescence. Then a few drops of 15% sodium hydroxide solution were added, and the fluorescence disappeared after 2 minutes. Keep one piece of filter paper away from light and expose the other piece of filter paper to light. After about 3 hours, observe it under ultraviolet light (365nm). The sky blue fluorescence of the exposed piece will be enhanced, while the piece away from light will not show fluorescence.

[Preparation] Peucedanum chinense : remove impurities, wash, soak, cut into thin slices, and dry in the sun.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, pungent, slightly cold.

【return through meridian】return to lung meridian.

【Functions and indications】Disperses wind and heat, descends Qi and resolves phlegm. It is used for wind-heat cough with excessive sputum, sputum-heat wheezing, and yellow and thick sputum.

【Usage and Dosage】 3~9g.

[Storage] Store in a cool and dry place to prevent mildew and moth.
