[Original form] Celastrus macrophylla is a climbing shrub, 3-7m tall. The winter buds are large, 7-10mm long. Branchlets cylindrical, striate, multi-lenticel. Simple leaves are alternate; petiole can be up to 2cm long; leaf blade is ovate-elliptical or rectangular, 5-15cm long, 2-8cm wide, acuminate or acute at the apex, serrated at the edge, and cuneate or obtuse at the base. The cymes are terminal or axillary, with a short peduncle; the flowers are yellow-green, 5-merous, and the disk has shallow round teeth. Capsule, 10-13mm in diameter. Flowering period is May-June.
