[Habitat distribution] Grown in sunny places in sparse woods on high mountain slopes. Distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan, Shaanxi, Hubei, Yunnan and other places.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, cool.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies. Treat burns and injuries.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat burns: appropriate amount of waxwood, or equal amounts of forsythia leaves and flowers. Grind into fine powder, mix with sesame oil and apply on the affected area.

[Clinical application] Antipyretic: Use 2 ml of Ligustrum lucidum injection (equivalent to 4 grams of raw drug) for intramuscular injection, twice a day for 2 to 3 days. 21 cases were treated (6 cases of upper respiratory tract infection, 13 cases of acute tonsillitis, 1 case of pneumonia, and 2 cases of infection). Body temperature usually dropped within 24 hours, white blood cell count returned to normal within 24 to 48 hours, and throat pain began to ease after about 48 hours. This medicine has a fast fever-reducing effect and does not cause sweating, which is different from general antipyretic and analgesic drugs. No toxic reactions or side effects were observed during the injection, but all patients complained of local pain.
