[Source] It is the root of Elymus chinensis, a plant of the Asteraceae family. Harvested in summer and autumn.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 50 to 90 cm tall, with short hairs all over. The root tuber is oblong. The stem is erect and often branched at the top. The leaves are alternate, petiolate, triangular-broad-ovate, 7 to 15 cm long, deeply pinnately lobed, and the lobes are shallowly lobed with coarse teeth. There are many capitulums, gathered into a cone; the flowers are yellow, and there are usually 5 bracts; the outer ligulate flowers are female and strong; the central tubular flowers are bisexual; there are 4 to 5 stamens, and the anthers are fused; the ovary is inferior. Achenes oblong, pappus 6 mm long.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in shady and moist places beside ravines. Distributed in Shaanxi, Gansu and other places.
