[Source] This product is Kyllinga monocephala Rottb., a plant of the genus Kyllinga in the Cyperaceae family, and the whole plant is used as medicine. Available all year round.

[Original morphology] Perennial herb with creeping rhizomes. The stems are scattered or sparsely clustered, flat and sharply triangular. The leaves are usually shorter than the culm, 2.5-4.5 mm wide, flat, weak, with sparse serrations on the edges; the leaf sheaths are short, brown, or with purple-brown spots, and the lowest leaf sheaths have no leaves. There are 3 to 4 leaf-like bracts, which are obliquely spreading and much longer than the inflorescence. In summer, a round ovate or spherical white or pale head inflorescence grows from the top of the culm, 5-9 mm long, 5-7 mm wide, with a large number of spikelets; the scales are membranous, boat-shaped, with keel-like protrusions on the back and wings.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in moist grasslands or on the edge of fields. Distributed in provinces and regions such as Guangxi, Guangdong and Yunnan.

[Preparation] Wash and dry.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly sweet, slightly bitter, neutral.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and resolves phlegm, promotes blood circulation and reduces swelling. It is mainly used to treat whooping cough and malaria; it can be used externally to treat bruises, snake and insect bites.

【Usage and Dosage】 0.5-1 liang, decocted and taken orally. For external use, mash the fresh product and apply to the affected area.

【Note】 Pregnant women should not take this medicine.

[Additional prescription] Whooping cough: 2 taels of fresh Eupatorium edulis, appropriate amount of sugar, boil with 2 bowls of water until half a bowl remains, add sugar, and take in 3 doses.
