[Alias] Red flowered water lily. [Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Polygala qujiangensis or Polygala macrophylla of the Polygalaceae family. [Original morphology] 1. Qujiang Polygala is a short subshrub, 5-15cm high. The lower part of the stem is woody, creeping on the ground, multi-branched, and often with raised leaf scars; the upper part of the stem has leaves, which are erect and covered with slightly curved sparse soft hairs. Flowers bisexual, racemes terminal, single or paired; flowers densely distributed, about 1cm long, purple-red; pedicels about 2mm long, glabrous; bracteoles not falling off during anthesis, membranous, oblong-ovate, nearly as long as pedicels; sepals 5, falling off after anthesis, membranous, 3 outer ones about 3mm long, 2 inner ones elliptic-obovate, about 7mm long, with 5 veins; petals 3, up to 9mm long, connate below 1/2, keel with 2 deeply lobed, lamellar, cockscomb-shaped appendages; stamens 8, filaments below 5/7 connate into sheaths; ovary oblate, winged, with disk, glabrous, concave at apex, style enlarged above, apex hooked. The capsule is oblate, about 4mm in diameter, concave at the apex and with narrow wings. The seeds are ovate, black, with small papillae, sparsely covered with white short soft hairs, and the caruncle is wing-like and 2-lobed, almost as long as or slightly longer than the seeds. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to August. [Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Growing on rocks in dense forests in valleys at an altitude of 900-1000m. [Properties] Identification of properties (1) The young stems of this product of Polygala qujiangensis are covered with short soft hairs or are hairless. The leaves are mostly fleshy, oval, 1.5-4cm long, 0.6-1.5cm wide, obtuse or nearly rounded at the apex, cuneate or nearly rounded at the base, entire, glabrous or covered with small bristles along the leaf margin, lavender on the back, glabrous, with 3 inconspicuous lateral veins, and a petiole 5-10mm long.
