[Other names] Shuixiang, Jiuweng, Tujinpi [bark name - Guangdong]

[Source] It is the flower bud of Cleistocalyx operculatus (Roxb.) Merr. et Perry, a plant of the Myrtaceae family. Its leaves, roots and bark are also used for medicinal purposes. In early summer, collect inflorescences with flower buds, wet them and pile them up for several days, dry them in the sun for a while, then pile them up and keep them in a stuffy place for 1 to 2 days, then dry them in the sun and keep them in a stuffy place again, until they are completely dry and turn black. In summer and autumn, dry branches are cut down, the rough bark and wood core are removed, and the second layer of bark is left to dry in the sun. The leaves are picked and dried in summer.

【Functions and indications】 Bitter, cold.

[Usage and Dosage] Clears away heat and relieves exterior symptoms, removes dampness and eliminates stagnation, and relieves inflammation and itching. Flower buds: colds and fever, bacterial dysentery, acute gastroenteritis, and indigestion. Root: Icteric hepatitis. Bark: Used externally to treat burns, leprosy, skin itching, and athlete's foot. Leaves: Used externally to treat acute mastitis.

[Note] 3 to 5 cents of flower buds, or use them as ingredients for herbal tea; 0.5 to 1 liang of roots; appropriate amount of bark and leaves for external use, mash the fresh ones or boil them in water.
