[Original morphology] The body is slender, nearly round in shape, slightly flattened at the posterior end, and about 12 cm long. The head is extremely flat. The eyes are big; the mouth is also big, the snout is long and pointed, and triangular in shape. The upper and lower jaws are of equal length; there is a row of fine teeth on the premaxilla, maxilla, mandible and palate, and a pair of canine teeth on the front of the mandible. The front end of the mandible has no presymphysis but a fleshy protrusion. Dorsal fin II11-13, slightly at the posterior 3/4 of the body. There are 8 to 9 pectoral fins with inconspicuous muscle base. Anal fin III 23-28, opposite to dorsal fin; male fish has a row of large scales on each side of the anal fin base, usually 18-21 in number. There is a small transparent adipose fin in the center of the dorsal and caudal fins. The body is soft and scaleless, transparent all over, and turns milky white after death. There is a row of black spots on each side of the body, and on the ventral side there are two parallel rows of small black spots from the chest through the abdomen to in front of the anal fin. They are separated to the left and right along the base of the anal fin, and merge into one at the rear end, reaching the base of the tail. In addition, small black spots are scattered on the caudal fin and the first ray of the pectoral fin.

[Habitat distribution] Distributed in the coastal areas from Shandong to Zhejiang, especially in Chongming at the mouth of the Yangtze River.
