[Original form] 1. Ghost flute shrub, 1-2 (-3) m high. The whole plant often has sparse or dense purple short glandular hairs. The branchlets, petioles, peduncles, bracts and sepal teeth are all pubescent. Leaves opposite; petiole 0.5-1.5cm long; leaves ovate-papery; ovate-lanceolate, ovate-oblong to ovate, 4-13cm, 2-6cm wide, apex long-tailed, acuminate or mucronate, base rounded to nearly cordate or broadly cuneate, margin often entire or finely toothed, green above, covered with short rough hairs, midrib hairs denser, white-green below, sparsely covered with curved short soft hairs or nearly glabrous. The spike inflorescence is terminal or axillary, drooping, with 6 flowers at each node, composed of 2 opposite cymes with 3 flowers; the peduncle is 0.8-3cm long, the central flower is sessile, and the lateral 2 flowers have very short petioles; the bracts are leaf-like, green or purple-red, 2-3.5cm long; the bracteoles are very small, less than 1mm long; the calyx tube is cylindrical, about 3mm long, densely covered with rough hairs and glandular hairs, the calyx lobes are 5, 1-3mm long, usually 2 long and 3 short, the corolla is white or pink, sometimes purple-red, funnel-shaped, 1.2-1.8cm long, sparsely covered with short soft hairs and glandular hairs on the outside, with 5 shallow sacs at the base, with nectaries in the sacs, and 5 lobes; 5 stamens, inserted at the throat of the corolla, about the same length as the corolla; the style slightly extends out of the corolla, the stigma is round shield-shaped, and the ovary has 5 chambers. The berry is ovoid-spherical, 5-10mm in diameter, with persistent calyx teeth, red, and later turns purple-black. The seeds are small and numerous, oblate, 1.2-1.5 mm long, light brown and shiny. The flowering period is from June to September, and the fruiting period is from September to October.
